I purchased this from Amazon for work and it has never worked once for backing up data. When I first burned with
Verbatin BD-R disk, it failed and has error code of 0xeb020b88. Then I used the disk came with, LG BD-RE disk,
to try to burn about 10GB of data. It failed also with
same error code. I used the S/W suite that came with
and Window XP Dell Precision 380.

This unit works like a charm with my late 2008 macbook pro with leopard 10.5.6 installed as well as with my powermac G4 with the same version of leopard. From the Mac world, I thought the day would never come, but this Blu-Ray burner works perfectly with my 8-core Mac Pro computer. I have had zero problems burning projects using Adobe Encore CS4. No need for Toast or even Compressor, as Encore now handles it all. The drive is faster than I expected, the quality is excellent and the Mac Pro recognizes it instantly. I was looking for an external Blueray disc/ HDDVD burner and found what I was looking for. This is a very good burner for all kinds of format. It is kind of pricey but I think it's worth the price for all the great features that this external burner offer. Also I can enjoy and watch movies with different formats. But be mindful that some computer can't support HD quality movies. Make sure you buy the right computer for the right external Blue ray disc /HDDVD Burner.

I wouldn't pay a hundred bucks for this thing. I got the $50 deal. So far no problems. Works pretty fast and reliably. Pretty smooth and quiet. Pretty decent size footprint though. Utilizes external power(comes w/ power cord). The usb cord that these come with are pretty short as well. Possibly to keep transfer speeds up. This drive is easy to install and very forgiving. I accidentally knocked the drawer off the drive. My 9 year old son put it back on and it has been working fine since!

The DVD drive installed OK in my new computer - but was not able to read a disk. I swapped it for a similar drive in my other computer and it failed there as well, while the one I swapped it for worked perfectly in my new computer.

Amazon was great in offering a refund - unfortunately I had already invested several hours trying to diagnose the problem before I realized it was the drive itself that was defective.

This is an INTERNAL drive for reading and writing CDs and DVDs (including dual layer DVDs). It doesn't include any case, brackets, or cables. It's great for replacing or upgrading an existing drive.

I selected this model because it has excellent specs, including great speed and support for all the popular disc formats. It advertises Windows support, and comes with a Windows driver disk, but I use it in a Macintosh -- I replaced a Plextor PX-740A, which died with its boots on.

These speakers are great, but since they only connect to USB they drain your computer's power. My Macbook could not take the abuse any longer, the speakers stopped working in less than a year. I was very bummed out and could not get them to work anymore.

I own a 2007 MacBook and ever since I bought it I have been bemoaning the fact that the speakers can't project worth crap. These speakers are absolutely perfect as far as I've been able to tell. Most importantly, they're amazingly loud. I can't turn the laptop volume past halfway before people start to yell at me. :) The sound quality seems great, but then, I've got pretty bad ears. I'd look to the other reviews for information on the sound quality.

This drive is very slow to read files. It will not allow me to read video files I burn on to it. This drive might be great but the software that comes with it stinks. I do not want power-2-go. I really just wanted to use it to store large video files and for back-up. And, the LG site says that this drive does not even exist. So how do I get the latest drives and firm ware for a drive that LG says they do not know anything about?

My review is a bit premature since I haven't thoroughly tested the writing capabilities of the drive yet but the reading capabilities are great. The drive comes with a nice selection of Cyberlink software, PowerDVD, PowerBackup, Power2Go, PowerProducer, InstantBurn, etc. The BluRay capabilities won't be available until you install the Cyberlink software. But once installed I could play a Blu-Ray disc without any apparent hiccup on my HP Pavilion laptop with only a Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz processor......

If you need (want) Blu-ray, this is an inexpensive way to get there with excellent quality.

I bought the GBW-H20L which is the exact same drive minus the HD-DVD read capability. I actually wish I had the HD-DVD capability because of the massive clearance at the San Marcos, CA Fry's but in the long run it won't really matter, so not a huge deal. The blu-ray reader/burner works great. The only complaint I have is that in Windows XP it lists the drive as a CD-ROM in "my computer". Oh well, as long as it works.

I'm not going to focus on the write/read technical specs and jargon - you can find a lot of those reviews from other buyers or from websites all over the net. My review is just on my personal reactions from using this drive.

First, just the fact that HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo drives are now non-existent makes this item a rarity.
Even if you were to find such a combo player, a consumer home version would cost you at least $600-700.
